Data Link Communication Missing Message - Input

The engine’s control module isn't receiving the expected signals from one of the sensors or modules.

The computer expects to receive data packets on the CAN bus every few milliseconds but isn’t receiving anything from the input, indicating a possible disconnection or failure in the communication line.

Don't just throw parts at it. Walk through these in order — each step tells you whether to keep going or stop and fix what you found.

1. 11. Start with a visual inspection of wiring and connectors related to the input device. Look for fraying, corrosion, or loose connections. If found, repair them and retest.
2. 22. Use a multimeter to check for continuity and voltage at the input device connector. You should see a voltage between 2.5V to 5V. If there's no voltage, trace the wiring back to the ECM.
3. 33. Check for proper ground at the input device; ground resistance should be less than 5 ohms. If resistance is higher, repair ground connections.
4. 44. If the wiring and connectors test okay, use a scan tool to check for other fault codes. If there are additional related codes, address those first.
5. 55. If no other issues are found, test or swap the input device/module with a known good part and retest.
